This 3.8 Litre Bonneville has a data port that is the same physical size as an OBDII, but when a code-reader is plugged in, it doesn't communicate. One mechanic says it's an OBDI since the car is a 95. Is this correct, and if so, is there an adapter for an OBDII reader, or does anyone have info. The car runs great but I have a "check engine" light on, and would like to be able to read the trouble code, and also reset the light. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanx

hi, yes this is 0BD 1 vehicle, but you can use GM software and scan with the x431. never done any testing on this vehicle, good luck.

Thanx, cj Unfortunately, I am a poor boy who only has the obd11 generic scanner, you know, the $50 cheapie. But, with you confirming that the car is an OBD1, I can go back to the mech who changed the engine and see if his equipment can handle OBD1. If not, I'll try to find someone who can and pay for the scan. Thanx again!

hi , there must be a way to flash the code ,but you need to get the workshop manual, you could also let your mechnic check things like o2 sensor etc, you can clear the check light by disconnecting the battery for a min or 2, then reconnect battery.
