Hi guys,. must admit I have not worked on many of these, but I know there are lots of problems according to the archives. This one is a real heap and has done about 130 thousand miles. Owner is sure his problem only started after he changed the fuel filter, however it runs really badly and smokes like hell, also for some reason I cant get any live data as the second I plug in my X31 the engine cuts out, and it will not start off the key again (but he is needing a battery as apparently this problem occurred 3 months ago)he has codes P1211"injector controlpressure sensor above/below/desired"and P0251 "Injection pump fuel metering control A malfunction", he also has P1631 "main relay malfunction(power hold)" not sure where to start on this to be honest, thanks, Jim

i too had same problem in starting engine with tool connected, came out of program to main ford menu and could start vehicle then start diagnosis.this car had same faults, rechecked filter connections and filled with fuel by hand before starting then o.k.
check youre pump pressure in live data to see if it drops at high revs.
you mention it smokes ,what colour is the smoke?could be over or under fuelling or oil getting into engine depending on what colour it is
